Conference “Dialogue around the work of Corot” with Daniel Mohen and Laurent Schmidt
A 19th century painter, often associated with the Barbizon school, Corot is rightly celebrated today for his landscape painting.
Lately recognized, staying away from the group of impressionists, conceding nothing to the fashions of his time, Corot only attracted attention from the 1850s. He was a great traveler, painted a lot outdoors, to nourished by the places, crossed at the rhythm of long walks, interspersed with drawing sessions, some of which were then engraved.
We will follow Corot, in Charente-Maritime, where he painted views of Rochefort and the port of La
Rochelle. But it is above all the painter sensitive to the lights and the windy moods of the northern paths, which will allow us to hear all the poetry that he knew how to infuse into landscape painting.
