Are you staying on the territory for the first time and you don't want to miss anything? Our visits over 48h, 72h or a week take you to unmissable places. Let yourself be guided for your holidays in Destination Royan Atlantique!

What to do on a weekend around Royan?

When we get to Royan, it is necessary, to begin, to take the pulse of the city. It goes through the central Market, the nerve heart. We stock up on local products to prepare a picnic on the Grande Conche beach before taking the direction of Customs Trail. Departing from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, we then set off for a 3,5 km walk along the Atlantic coast. In the evening, we make a detour via the oyster port of La Grève at La Tremblade to savor a platter of Marennes-Oléron oysters.

After staying in a hotel in Royan or the family campsite in Saint-Palais, we start our
second day by the family visit of the La Palmyre zoo. In the heart of an 18-hectare forest,
1 animals of different species are thus observed. At the exit, we go to the Wild side and its immense fine sandy beaches for a refreshing swim. We enjoy a panorama full of nature: on one side the ocean as far as the eye can see, on the other the dunes and the forest.

The essentials in 3-4 days

During a long weekend, you have all the more time to explore the territory. We therefore plan to stop at Mornac-sur-Seudre, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France®. It is a typical village, with colorful doors and cobbled streets that is revealed. You won't be able to resist a shopping session in the artisanal stalls of Mornac! In the afternoon, we board a kayak or a paddle for an outing to the heart of the Seudre marshes. We end the day with an éclade, one of our essential Charente specialties.

On the 4th day, we book a cruise on the Gironde estuary, departing from the port of Royan, with a breathtaking view of the Cordouan lighthouse. Back on dry land, we visit the caves
troglodytes of Meschers
and stroll through the flowery alleys of Talmont-sur-Gironde, a charming village also ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France®. At the end of the day, admire the sunset over the Gironde estuary.

One week getaway

In one week, you can understand all the facets of the destination: not only to understand its history but also to discover its natural riches. In Royan, the park district takes us back in time through the architecture of Belle Époque villas and the 50s. A few kilometers away, the point of Suzac also reveals other remains, those of the blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall. We continue the walk south on a footpath on the side of the cliffs, punctuated below by natural coves, ideal for a well-deserved swimming break.

The discovery then continues with a bike ride on the Vélodyssée®, secure cycle path that takes us from Royan to La Tremblade. You choose your itinerary: urban with a view of the ocean and the squares or, on the contrary, full nature in the heart of the Coubre forest massif, under the pines and holm oaks. In La Palmyre, a red and white silhouette stands in front of us: the Coubre lighthouse. It will still take a little energy to climb its 300 steps and enjoy a 360° view. We end the day with a night market, the opportunity to unearth souvenirs for the whole family.

Finally, we take a moment to visit a winery. We stop at a producer
local on the Gironde hillsides. On the program: discovery of the cellars, production method and tasting of Vins de Pays Charentais, Cognac and the famous Pineau des Charentes*.
After a busy week, the territory still conceals a few nuggets: a heritage
unsuspected vernacular, preserved natural sites, not to mention numerous activities à
practice! Ideas are not lacking. All that remains is to extend the stay…
