Conférence d’Omer Baudry : “Les cheminées paysannes du XIXe siècle à Sablonceaux et ses alentours”
Add to my Google CalendarPresentation
In the 19th century, the most modest houses of Sablonceaux and surrounding towns were adorned with beautiful fireplaces with sculpted decorations.
These sculptures, made by stonemasons, are not signed. But for some of them, we find similar motifs, notably flower sculptures, whose style can be reminiscent of naive art. Where do these sculptures come from? Why carve such a decoration on peasant fireplaces? During this conference, Omer Baudry will propose avenues for reflection based on around fifty peasant chimneys identified in Sablonceaux and in the surrounding communities.
The abbey's granary is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
