5 IDEAS FOR HIKING

We reveal our selection of hikes to recharge your batteries in the heart of nature. Forest walks, coastal paths or bucolic paths through the the countryside, let yourself be guided away from “direct” routes. Lasting a few hours, the circuits of Walk and Hike (PR) et Detours® trails are suitable for the whole family. GPX track files are available for each ride.

1. The PR 9 trail – 7,5 km ≈ 2h: The tip of Suzac

Easy level – Standardized yellow markings
Between sea and forest, this route takes us to discover the Pointe de Suzac in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. Under the holm oaks, at the top of the cliffs overlooking the mouth of the Gironde estuary, we are at the heart of the marine natural park, vast protected area of ​​6000 km2. Along the way, we approach the remains of the Atlantic Wall.

2. The PR 16 trail – 8 km ≈ 1h40: The path of the priests

Very easy level – Standardized yellow markings
Departing from theAbbey of Sablonceaux, this circuit retraces the path once taken by the priests on their way to Saint-Romain-de-Benet. The walk passes through the woods and countryside of the Val de Seudre. On the way back, don't miss a visit to Notre-Dame Abbey. Founded in the XNUMXth century, it survived the Hundred Years War, the Wars of Religion and the French Revolution.

3. The Détours® Trail on foot – 6 km ≈ 1h10: Détours® at L'Éguille-sur-Seudre

Very easy level – Marking blue panels
L'Éguille is the last oyster port going up the Seudre estuary. Through small side roads, this 6 km walk leads us to "the Point" where a magnificent view of the clear (for refining oysters) is offered to us. On the way, picturesque sites are to be discovered such as the old tide mill or the port.

4. Hike in La Coubre forest – 3,5 km ≈ 45 min: Gardour trail

Very easy level – Dark red markings
Extending over nearly 8000 ha, the Coubre forest is a veritable green lung in our territory. In the middle of pines and holm oaks, you can observe the richness of the local flora and fauna: roe deer, deer, wild boar... This short hike passes at the foot of the Gardour tower (former watchtower) located on the highest point of the forest (64 m).

5. The PR 4 Trail – 8 km ≈ 1h40: Hillsides and valleys

Very easy level – Standardized yellow markings
From the church of Chenac, this 8 km course winds through the hills and valleys of the south of the territory and offers a panorama of the Gironde estuary and the small port of Saint-Seurin-d'Uzet. According to the seasons, the colors change according to the vines and the marshes... The walk can continue until the Port des Monards with its fishing and pleasure boats.
