About

The Maison des Douanes invites you to escape to the heart of an exceptional site in Saint Palais-sur-Mer. The Royan Atlantique Agglomeration Community wanted to dedicate this place to artistic creation and contemplation of the coast.

A new look at art and landscape:
A space dedicated to the arts and the contemplation of the coast, the Maison des Douanes invites you to escape to the heart of an exceptional site. Anxious to share its architectural and natural heritage, the Royan Atlantique Agglomeration Community has transformed the former Customs House of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer into a place open to artistic creation.

The Jardin Arboré opens generously to walks on the coastal footpath and to the discovery of one of the most beautiful views of the coast.
Free access to the garden and gazebo.

The exhibition "a secret garden" presented at the Maison des Douanes was born from the meeting of two artists, Rebecca Louise Law and Ayline Olukman, and their view of femininity and nature, their vulnerability, their beauty. , their richness, their fragility and the cycle that accompanies them. Nature has thus invited itself inside the Maison des Douanes, offering a poetic wandering and a universe where time is suspended, conducive to observation, appeasement and serenity.
The works of the two artists are revealed over the course of the visit, they respond to each other, accompany each other, offering resonance to their reflection on the link between nature and femininity. Each reveals through its monumental floral installations, its paintings, its photographs, or its sculptures, its definition of the secret garden.
Thoughts and words enrich the journey until the screening of the documentary on the meeting of artists whose human and artistic sensibilities have come together.
In the garden, a creation designed by BYME, inspired by and responding to the exhibition, offers a playful, aesthetic and poetic experience, where each visitor can immerse themselves in the heart of their blue flower side, inside their own Secret garden.
