It is finally a journey where each pedal stroke holds its share of surprises, with remarkable viewpoints and a total immersion in the natural wealth of the territory.

Step 1: From Royan to Saint-Georges-de-Didonne
The departure is from Foncillon beach, in the heart of Royan. From the outset, the horizon opens onto the estuary. Along the Grande Conche, you pedal on a perfectly designed cycle path. Thecity architecture is sure to catch the eye. Indeed, the Belle Époque villas and buildings from the 50s bear witness to a turbulent history.
A slight detour through Royan Park allows for a welcome break in the shade of the pines, before reaching Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. Here, the Vallières lighthouse overlooks the large beach. The Charles Martel promenade guides cyclists looking for a stop facing the sea (and why not, with their feet in the water).

Step 2: From Saint-Georges-de-Didonne to Meschers-sur-Gironde
Leaving the seafront, we dive into a wilder atmosphere. The Suzac forest offers a shaded interlude between maritime pines, cork oaks and strawberry trees. Then, the relief becomes more present, between track and road. For a moment of history, a break on the Suzac point is essential. Here, the World War II blockhouse maintain their role as lookouts in front of the gates of the estuary.
Otherwise, for a quiet break, just turn off towards one of the coves scattered along the shore. A moment suspended between land and sea.
The white cliffs then emerge, revealing the famous Troglodyte caves of Regulus and Matata. A must-see to immerse yourself in local history and enjoy a unique view of the estuary.
Step 3: From Meschers to Talmont-sur-Gironde
The route becomes gentler, but the discoveries continue. Hidden from the road, Port Maran in the commune of Arces reveals a unique panorama between marshes and fishing huts.
In just a few pedal strokes, you can reach Talmont-sur-Gironde, a village classified among the Most Beautiful in France®.

Its Sainte-Radegonde church, perched on its cliff, seems to watch over the estuary. This is the opportunity to leave your bikes at the entrance to the village. Here, there are no cars, everything is done on foot. In the flowery alleys, time seems to slow down. An ideal stop before tackling the last part of the route.
Step 4: From Talmont-sur-Gironde to Mortagne-sur-Gironde
Change of scenery. Between marshes and vineyards, the road undulates gently before rising towards the Caillaud cliff and its squaresThe viewpoints follow one another, including the bay of Chandorat and the Pilou cliff, offering striking panoramas over the estuary.
Crossing the Monards port requires attention. The road is narrow and winding, but the reward is at the end of the road. Between Barzan and Chenac – Saint-Seurin-d'Uzet, the Chauvignac river is worth a stop. This site classified as a Natura 2000 zone allows for a walk along its turquoise waters. In the summer, you can also rent canoes, giving you time to work your arms and rest your legs.
We get back on the road towards Saint-Seurin-d'Uzet, the former capital of caviar. It's worth taking a detour to the port: its picturesque and peaceful setting invites you to take a break facing the water. Shortly before Mortagne-sur-Gironde, the marsh comes alive: white storks, herons and other migratory birds find a privileged refuge here. The road at the foot of the cliffs is rather steep and winding for the grand finale.
