The ideal time to experience this natural immersion? From May to September, when the light enhances the marshes and the mild climate lends itself to cycling excursions and waterside breaks.
Day 1: Bike ride and heritage of the Entre-deux estuaires
Distance: between 28 and 36 km by bike
Morning: arrived at the station Saujon, gateway to the Seudre marshes, we drop off our luggage at the hotel and pick up our bikes.
Lunch in Saujon: Head to rue Carnot for a quick lunch: a gourmet picnic in a bakery or a hot dish at the Vittoria pizzeria.
Afternoon : Depending on your mood, you can combine a bike ride in the countryside between the two estuaries with the discovery of a vineyard, a horse ride or a heritage tour.
1 option: we borrow thecycle route no. 7 which winds through fields and vineyards to Corme-Lock (18 km / 1 hour 15 minutes one way). On site, 2 activity options:
- visit the Maison Savinaud wine estate with, as a bonus, a tasting of Pineaux and Cognacs, emblematic products of Royan Atlantic Vineyards
- or, if you are with family, make a pony or horse ride at Petit Trot Cormillon
Return to Saujon at the end of the day by the same route.
2 option: we follow the mountain bike circuit no. 14 to Sablonceaux (14 km / 1 hour 10 minutes there).
The route is accessible to all (even with a mountain bike) and relatively flat.
Our goal: to discover thethousand-year-old abbey of Sablonceaux, one of the treasures of Royan's heritage. Independently, we explore the cloister, the chapter house and the garden. Interpretive panels allow us to learn more about the Romanesque heritage.
For the return trip, we continue the mountain bike loop towards Saint-Romain-de-Benet. Along the way, we admire the magnificent domes of the Saint-Romain church as well as the Pirelonge Tower, a Gallo-Roman vestige.
Dinner in Saujon: on the port of Riberou, pizzas and paninis at Il Panino, terrace with view of the Seudre at the Lock Brewery or the family Ribérou.
We end the evening with a short digestive walk on the developed banks of the Seudre and around the lakes (follow the Sentier Détours® n°2 markings).
