Day 1: In the heart of the Saintonge countryside

Morning: We put our suitcases down at Cozes, at the gateway to the Gironde estuary. To soak up the local atmosphere, there's nothing like a walk along the Detour Trails®. We explore the rich rural heritage and the rolling landscapes surrounding the village. Depending on your mood, you can choose a short route (35 min) or a longer loop (1 hour), perfect for starting your stay gently.

Afternoon : In the afternoon, it's time for adventure with an outdoor activity to choose according to the season.

  • On board of cyclerail, you cycle at your own pace through vineyards and groves on an old railway line linking Saint-André-de-Lidon to Cozes. An original way to explore the countryside while having fun.
  • In summer, head for the gentle Seudre for a kayak ride between Corme-Écluse and Saujon. On this 8 km course, you paddle along the water, between reed beds and marshes, in a peaceful atmosphere conducive to contemplation.

Night : We spend the first night at the Le Sorlut campsite in Cozes, a green setting ideal for recharging your batteries.

Day 2: Heritage and remarkable village

Morning: On Saturdays, don't miss the market under the Cozes covered market. The stalls are overflowing with local specialties. It's an opportunity to taste local produce and chat with the producers.

After this break, direction Arces sur GirondeIts Romanesque church of Saint-Martin has watched over the surrounding countryside since the 12th century. It marks the beginning of our itinerary dedicated to local heritage.

We then take the road again towards Talmont-sur-Gironde, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France®Built on a rocky promontory, this medieval village charms visitors with its flower-lined streets, white houses, and Sainte-Radegonde church overlooking the estuary. After lunch, take the time to stroll through its small craft shops.

Afternoon : A few kilometers from Talmont, the Fâ archaeological site reveals the remains of an ancient Gallo-Roman port city. Between excavation objects on display in the museum, guided tours, and activities, we delve into the daily life of a distant era. An immersive experience that enriches our discovery of the region.

Night : On sunny days, we go to the La Ferme La Gravelle campsite in Mortagne-sur-Gironde. An unusual location where you can experience farm life: organic lamb farming, a horse farm, and a farm-style table make it a welcoming place to stay.

Out of season, we opt for the charm of a guest room at Domaine du Meunier, an old building facing the port of Mortagne. Artistic atmosphere, second-hand furniture, views of the estuary… an inspiring and relaxing place to spend the night.

Day 3: Panorama of the Gironde estuary and the vineyards

Morning : For this last morning, we gain height at the belvedere of Mortagne sur GirondeThe view of the Gironde estuary and the salt marshes is breathtaking. Reaching the lower town, you venture to the foot of the limestone cliffs. They shelter the Saint-Martial hermitage and its curious monolithic church. The walk continues in the port of Mortagne, where fishing boats and pleasure boats sway to the rhythm of the tide. A relaxing stop before beginning the last leg of the trip.

Afternoon : It's impossible to leave the region without a detour to the vineyards. The afternoon is devoted to visiting a wine estate to discover the secrets of the Charente wines, Pineaux and CognacsFrom the vineyards to the cellars and stills, each stage of production is explained with passion. A tasting concludes this wine immersion, highlighting the unique flavors of the terroir. A wonderful way to end this short nature stay between vineyards, heritage, and local art of living.
