La route des cardinaux en Charente-Maritime
The European Route d'Artagnan pays homage to this historical and literary hero, by inviting riders to follow in the footsteps of d'Artagnan and the musketeers.
With its 4 km of marked trails across Europe, the European Route d'Artagnan offers a chance to rediscover the history and landscapes of the Old Continent at the pace of a horse. This vast itinerary pays homage to the illustrious musketeer d'Artagnan, a figure of both history and literature, by retracing his steps through 000 regions and 15 European countries, from Gers (in Lupiac, his native village) to Maastricht, where he met his death.
In Charente-Maritime, the route stretches 350 kilometers, from Mortagne-sur-Gironde to La Clotte, in Haute Saintonge. This section offers riders a journey to the heart of a region rich in heritage, traditions, and unspoiled landscapes. Between estuaries, forests, valleys, and picturesque villages, the Route d'Artagnan reveals all the diversity and authenticity of the Southwest.
Much more than a simple equestrian trail, this route is an immersion into 17th-century Europe, exploring its history, culture, and people. It invites travelers to take the time to discover, exchange, and enjoy a unique experience, in the very spirit of the values held by d'Artagnan and his companions: bravery, loyalty, and a spirit of adventure.
