Go back in time and discover the heritage of our territory and its jewels of Romanesque art on one of the old roads of Santiago de Compostela.

You will walk between the river and the hills and discover the small villages nestled in the hollows of the valleys. At each turn of the winding roads, your gaze will escape towards the Estuary whose changing colors highlight the landscape.

Your getaway will be filled with treasures and curiosities to observe:
– Talmont-sur-Gironde, classified “Most Beautiful Villages in France” and “Villages of Stones and Water”
– The Fâ archaeological site in Barzan
– The troglodyte caves of Meschers, dug into the cliff.

Loop

Route 4: Markings departing from the port of Meschers-sur-Gironde, the “Rives de Gironde” markings will guide you on your getaway to Barzan Plage. At the real estate agency, take Chemin de Chandorat on the left then follow the DV marking. The “Meschers-sur-Gironde -Talmont and Barzan beach” portion is on its own site. When you leave the “Canal des 2 mers” route at the real estate agency, you are on a shared path. At the port of Meschers, when the lock is closed, you can cut through to reach the area bars and restaurants.At the port, on the technical zone side, the cycle path continues on its own site at the end of the car park at the bowling green.

Access details

The section of the route between Cozes and Fontenille runs along limestone paths that are not suitable for road bikes. Gravel, hybrid, or city bikes are required. Cozes is halfway along the route and can be used as a stopover town.
