On this route you will find landscapes mainly composed of agricultural land, meadows and woods. Wheat, corn, sunflower and vegetable crops are grown there.

The vine is present there in some places, the grapes being used to produce cognac, pineau and local Charentais wine. Part of this land is used for grazing cattle, sheep and even horses. You will also discover the Château de Chaillonnais, a former XNUMXth century dwelling.

Step 1: DEPARTURE FROM THE STATION

Around the middle of the 1875th century, seaside resorts became fashionable. The invention of the railway will facilitate access to beaches such as those of Royan or St-Palais-sur-Mer. The line linking Royan to Bordeaux via Pons and Cozes and serving Saujon was created in 14. On August 1910, 38, Saujon station was the scene of a terrible railway accident following a switching error. The Bordeaux - Royan collides with a freight train parked on the track, killing XNUMX people.
Leave via rue Yves du Manoir, then take rue des Glycines to exit Chemin de Rangeard. Cross the level crossing on the right.

Step 2: Entry into the Saujon countryside

Follow Chemin du Pré des Mottes and turn right at Chemin des Rochettes. Turn left onto Chemin des Perches.

Step 3: The hamlet of Roberts

Follow the Chaillonnais road under the Bertu woods.

Step 4: The Château de Chaillonnais

This old 500th century dwelling, restored in the 2015th century, is flanked by two fine slate-covered towers. To the west of the house, a monumental dovecote stands. The first floor and XNUMX square meters of roof burned in XNUMX. It has since been restored.
Return to the station.
