The gateway to the Royan region, coming from Saintes, Médis is located a few kilometers from the first beaches of Royan . Like the agricultural countryside between the two estuaries, Médis has managed to retain the authenticity of a rural community with its hamlets and localities close to the lively seaside resort. A natural curiosity, the Pousseau marsh extends across the municipalities of Royan and Médis. A zone of pastures and wet meadows covering nearly 150 hectares, it is one of the last urban marshes on the Atlantic coast.
Get down to earth...
We explore the small town of Médis on foot. Following the two Détours® trails , these walks, winding between heritage architecture and natural beauty, promise a delightful discovery. We pass the Church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens and pause for a moment to admire its façade, a typical example of Saintonge Romanesque art. A little further on, another monument stands before us: the Protestant temple. This new temple was built to replace the one erected a century earlier at a place called "Le Pouyeau".
Other remarkable monuments make the richness of the built heritage. The stately home of La Rigaudière, a classical style castle, those of Puyraveau, a noble house of the XNUMXth century and of Pourteau, a bourgeois house of the XNUMXth century are among these.
