Seen from the sky, the agricultural landscapes between the two estuaries dominate and look like a patchwork of green plots. Vestiges of a past history, the Romanesque churches bear witness to a discreet architectural heritage. AT Corme-Lock, for example, the details of the portal of the Church of Our Lady deserve special attention. The high point of this ancient heritage, the abbey of Sablonceaux stands at the very north of the between-two estuaries, like a landmark for pilgrims taking the route of the paths of Saint Jacques de Compostela from Saintes to the Gironde by the Royan ferry.
