Distance: between 7 and 10 km by bike

Morning: Having arrived at Royan station, we head straight to Royan by Cycles to reserve bikes and leave luggage in storage before setting off to explore the city on foot. We start by getting a feel for the place. central Market, an emblem of 50s architecture.

Lunch at Royan: Depending on your mood, you can put together a picnic with fresh produce (special mention for Maison Gomary, delicatessen and caterer) or sit down at a table around the market, at LittleKitchen ou At Mika's.

Afternoon : we continue our visit to Royan : the Protestant temple, the Notre-Dame church, Le Palais Royan Événements then the seafront (2 km).

Back to Royan by Cycles to pick up the bikes and head towards the Vélodyssée® Heading towards Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The route offers beautiful views, with a possible stop in Pontaillac to enjoy an ice cream at Lopez or L'Angélys.

Dinner in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer:  In the city center, we dine by the beach Bob'sin La Terrasse visit us at the CôteSau or the family Bistro Damio (more chic). At La Grande Côte, you sit down at the Tom Thumb (sea view) or at The Island for a more chill atmosphere, with your feet in the sand.

We end the evening with the sunset on the esplanade of the Grande Côte and a short digestive stroll on the Customs Officers' Path.

Day 2: Discovering the treasures of the Gironde estuary

Morning: We resume the Vélodyssée® heading south this time, then the Canal des 2 mers by bike®Depending on one's mood, one might opt ​​for a cultural visit to Royan museum (Pontaillac district) or a nature walk on the Suzac headland with its World War II bunkers.

If we feel like it and the weather cooperates, we can refresh ourselves at Concheau from Suzac, a small, wild, and unspoiled beach. We continue our getaway to Meschers-sur-Gironde. There, we park our bikes to follow one of the Detour Trails® which crisscrosses the city (3 km).

Lunch at Meschers-sur-Gironde: After the exertion, the reward! Meschers offers a variety of restaurants, each with its own atmosphere. Take your pick: Port Bistro ou The Moussaillon facing the port, Bikki Beach ou The Spot on the Nuns' Beach.

Afternoon : We begin with a visit to the troglodyte caves of Meschers-sur-GirondeThese natural cavities carved into the limestone rise to about fifteen meters above sea level.

Then, we get back on our bikes and continue to Talmont-sur-GirondeWe end the day strolling through the flower-filled streets of this village, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France®, with its Romanesque church overlooking the estuary.

Having dinner : Several possibilities emerge depending on one's place of accommodation: The Little Court ou The breeze in Talmont-sur-Gironde, The Monards Inn in Barzan, The Gourmet Anchor in Chenac-Saint-Seurin-d'Uzet or finally The Presbytery to Épargnes for a refined dinner.

Night : we set up camp near Talmont-sur-Gironde or in a bed and breakfast with spa in Épargnes.

Day 3: Between heritage and relaxation by the sea

Distance: between 20 and 25 km by bike

Morning:  Two options are emerging to complete the stay before our return to Royan by bike.

Option 1: If the tides allow, we cycle back to the port of Meschers and board the Vedettes La Bohème for a boat trip on the Gironde estuaryThe one-hour walk promises beautiful views of the cliffs, caves and the Cordouan lighthouse offshore.

Afternoon : We're savoring our last afternoon in the great outdoors! We're relaxing on the large beach of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and trying out a water activity like land sailing, paddleboarding, or e-foiling for more thrills. If you don't have your sea legs, you can always borrow the Detours® Trail which runs through the seaside resort (4,5 km).
The last few kilometers to get back to Royan, return the bikes and take the train home…
