Exposition – Henri de Jordan (Alger 1944 – Royan 1996) Rétrospective

Wednesday, September 18 at 14 a.m.
Musée 31 avenue de Paris 17200 Royan
The Royan Museum brings together around sixty works to pay homage to this painter from the second half of the 20th century. Very well known in Europe, de Jordan is also present across the Atlantic in private collections.
His father, himself a painter, introduced him to culture very early on. Young Henri won his first competition at 13 years old.
He was initially interested in ceramics and tapestry, but most of his work consists of gouaches, pastels and oils.
As an adult, he worked with Jean Lurçat and Jean Picart Le Doux. He crosses paths with Picasso, Maillol, Dali and Dufy.
De Jordan completed a two-year world tour and returned very marked by Polynesian, Oriental, Japanese, Indian and South American colors. He then devoted himself to painting.
Playing with forms, he remains attached to a figuration from which he will never part.
His work testifies to the creative singularity of an artist who has never ceased to transpose the light of the world onto canvas.
