Exposition – Royan année zéro, images d’une ville martyre

Tuesday, February 11 at 14:00 p.m.
CIAP rez-de-mer du Palais des Congrès, 42 av des Congrès 17200 Royan
During the night of January 4-5, 1945, and then on April 14-15, 1945, Royan was severely hit by Allied bombings seeking to destroy one of the last Nazi strongholds, the "Royan Pocket."
The city was 85% destroyed. The only relatively untouched areas were the Parc and Pontaillac. This exhibition presents the state of the city after the bombings of 1945. The photographs, taken from different collections (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, departmental archives, Royan Museum), show the main Royan monuments in ruins, as well as the city streets cluttered with debris.
