Conférence – Où en est la démocratie en Afrique

Wednesday, December 10 at 14:30 p.m.
Salle Jean Gabin 112 rue Gambetta 17200 Royan
By Christian Bouquet, professor of political geography at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, researcher at the LAM laboratory
Since 2020, the African continent has been the scene of eight coups d'état that have led to military juntas taking power in place of presidents considered democratically elected. These "ruptures in the constitutional order" reflect both popular discontent and a crisis of democracy that deserves to be addressed. This conference will analyze the evolution of modes of governance in Africa between the pre-colonial period and independence.
