Royan is hosting a major retrospective of the painter Christian Gardair, on the theme of Europe's largest estuary, the Gironde Estuary. Gardair has been painting it for 60 years, fascinated by the tireless repetition of the tides;
an incessant and colossal flow, reaching up to two billion cubic meters of water entering this majestic river. The artist watches for primordial forces, the sun's rays on the water, the changing sky or the billowing of a vineyard on the hillside. He creates an abstract and solar work. Gardair has found in this microcosm of the estuary, the palpitation of the world and a universal language. Gardair transmits this lesson of a lifetime to us far from the din of the world, and his canvases, vibrant with life, dispense calm and vital energy.
