Thursday April 23 at 18:30 a.m.
Salle Jean Gabin 112 rue Gambetta 17200 Royan
By Richard Klein, architect, professor at the national school
Superior of Architecture and Landscape of Lille
The Palais des Congrès project that Le Corbusier developed for the city of Strasbourg between 1962 and 1965 has sparked curiosity and sometimes fascination among commentators. The complexity of the program, the composition of the plan, and the striking contrast between Cartesian and free-form shapes explain the interest that Le Corbusier's final project has generated. Based on archival research, this lecture illustrates a historical approach open to examining the political, economic, and technical circumstances that shape the everyday realities of architectural forms. The genesis, the various phases of the plan's evolution, its refinement, and its fate after the architect's death illuminate the workings of Le Corbusier's studio in its final years, and the importance of his collaborators and partners in the project.
and the increasingly imposing weight of engineering on architecture.
