Sentier Détours N°3 – Mornac-sur-Seudre
This Detours Trail allows you to discover the Plordonnier Route through the commune of Mornac.
Plordonnier is the second town of Mornac-sur-Seudre. Until 1883, it was part of the commune of Breuillet. Named "Pelourdonnier" in the XNUMXth century, it was probably a clam fishing village. This loop is a protected area of natural spaces.
Please stay on the belt line that belongs to the municipality. The rest of the marsh that you can admire remains a private area.

Step 1: DEPARTURE

Step 2: The Plordonnier channel
Follow the channel. It feeds the last salt marsh of Mornac-sur-Seudre. It is the southernmost saltworks on the Atlantic coast. 5 elements are necessary for the production of salt: water, sun, wind, clay and the hand of man. The water level in the marsh is controlled by a lock (a varagne, as they say here).
Step 3: The medieval fire replica
Lights were built in medieval times to guide sailors through delicate passages. Modest in size, like the constructions of the Middle Ages, made of tree trunks supporting a pendulum, oil, wood or coal are supplied to maintain a fire at night or smoke during the day. Here, it is a miniature replica of the one
of the port of Mornac-sur-Seudre, reconstruction of a model in Northern Europe.
Return via the town of Plordonnier. Plordonnier was mainly inhabited by salt workers, the vast majority of whom were Protestant.
