Balade n°5 – Entre Meschers et Cozes – GRAVEL et VTC
This route is winding with some nice hills: why not take advantage of your electric bike?
The section between Cozes and Fontenille uses limestone paths which are not suitable for road bikes.
Your getaway will be filled with treasures and curiosities to observe:
– Talmont sur Gironde, classified as “Most Beautiful Villages of France” and “Villages of Stone and Water”, its Sainte Radegonde Church is built on a promontory on the side of a cliff.
– The archaeological site of Fâ in Barzan, a port city buried underground, contains traces of temples, baths, theatre and forum.
– The market halls of Cozes, built in the 18th century, bear witness to the intense past activity of this town, which is still known for the dynamism of its fairs.
– The troglodyte caves of Meschers, carved into the cliff, served as a refuge over the centuries: for pirates, wreckers or inhabitants fleeing the wars of religion.
