This dramatic reading brings to life the rise of small farming and fishing villages to become a renowned new seaside resort. It's a fascinating rediscovery of a society and its colorful, even prominent, inhabitants, whose names no longer mean much to us, except perhaps when they appear as street names. It's also the story of the convergence of progressive forces in the unbridled evolution of modern society, born in the mid-19th century.

Eugène Pelletan offers a tender and humorous chronicle of the Royan region. Nostalgia is not the order of the day, as he mischievously announces emancipation and openness to the world, with progress, sea bathing, the explosion of the changing city, and, for us, a nod to the city of today.
